Exciting city tour and research stations

On the last Tuesday of this school year, the third class of the VfFB private secondary school in Zwettl had the opportunity to take part in an exciting guided tour of the town of Zwettl. The tour started at the Cisterscapes exhibition in the Old Town Hall to gain basic knowledge about the monastic landscape. The tour continued with a walk through the town, during which town archivist Elisabeth Moll explained the history of the town and Zwettl Abbey to the pupils. So the young people not only got to know Zwettl better, but also saw exciting objects in the monastic landscape.
The young people then explored the special features of the Zwettl monastic landscape and life in the early modern town at activity stations. They explored the monastic landscape with puzzle booklets and were very skilful at reading historic documents, written in handwriting that was used until around 100 years ago. They also learnt how to write with a goose quill and a typewriter. It was fascinating for the participants to see how people used to write and how writing techniques have changed over time. The morning flew by and the young people's interest in history and the Cistercian monastic landscape was awakened.
